The name Marangu derives from the local Chagga word, meaning 'springwater'. The village is situated on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro about 40 km from Moshi town. This program offers a variety of trips to different natural and cultural sites of the lokal people.
Other walks lead to nearby Mamba and Makundi, known for their traditional Chagga blacksmiths and woodcarvers.

In the Arusha Nationalpark lay the Momela Lakes, which is the best place to see many of the 400 species of birds in the park. Each of the lakes has a slightly different color due to the different types of algae in them.
Animals such as zebra, elephants, hyena, hippos, buffalo and warthogs are commonly sighted. See Mt. Meru & Kilimanjaro, if the weather is good.

Arusha National Park

A day next to the water!
The Lake Chala area is a beautiful landscape located on the western side of Kilimanjaro at the Kenya/Tanzanian border, about 2.5 hour drive from Moshi. The lake is filled and drained by underground streams. Located near the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the lake is amazingly clear with steep crater walls. It is the deepest inland water body in Africa.
Due to the enormous depth boating is highly recommended. Visitors can hike at the lake and enjoy the beautiful view and fresh air. Aside from plenty of fish, you can observe lizards, baboons, monkeys and common snakes may be seen by chance.

Lake Chala

A 45 to 60 minute walk brings you to the Materuni Falls, where you will have a picnic lunch at the riverside. After lunch you may rest and enjoy the peace and beauty, or your guide will take your group for a walk above the falls, into the Kilimanjaro rainforest, observing more flora and hopefully some monkeys or other wildlife.

Waterfalls - Materuni

First we drive to the Rundugai Maasai market (usually on Mondays). From here you start trekking with a guide. Enjoy a hot lunch at a nice campsite. The trek leads to Chemka waterfalls, where you can take a swim in the natural bassin of the hot spring. Mt. Kilimanjaro is usually clearly seen from here in the early morning hours. Distance: 14 km.
Also explore the hot springs surroundings, like farms and villages.

Rundugai Hot Spring

Marangu is a large village located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Marangu is a lively market town with a cool climate. The location of the town makes it an ideal starting point for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Marangu is also an excellent location for hiking, bird watching and learning about the rural Africa. The cultural tourism program offers the opportunity for visitors to watch traditional blacksmiths, visit nearby caves and waterfalls as well as experience life in the local chagga tribe.
People around Marangu village are very welcoming and we hope you will enjoy your time with them.
While in Marangu you can learn more about the chagga culture by visiting a traditional chagga house made of straw roofing. Also the traditional food, made from bananas and local brew, known as Mbege, can be tasted.

Marangu Village

Nyumba ya Mungu is one the most striking features in the country. The crystal clear water runs down the slopes of Kilimanjaro in the deep valleys as sparkling streams. These streams pour their water in the legendary reservoir called Nyumba ya Mungu. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, swimming and walking around the dam to enjoy the spectacular views. Enjoy your picknick lunch!

A short mountain experience!
Start your Daytrip with a walk through the rainforest to Mandara Hut (2720m). The walk takes 3hrs. After that you enjoy your visit at the Maundi crater for amazing views! Have a picnic lunch along the way.
Activities: Picnic lunch, adventure walking, observing black and white monkeys, enjoy a photografic scenery.
